Why Single Line Art Works for Slow Down

Single line art is a technique where an entire image is created with one unbroken line. It’s simple at first glance, but it requires intention, patience, and presence—the same qualities at the heart of Slow Down.

When I began designing the book, I knew I wanted the art to mirror the experience I hoped readers would have. A single line felt right. It moves slowly. It invites you to follow it with your eyes or your fingertips. It encourages you to pause and notice the small shifts and curves along the way.

The cover image—two hearts hugging—is drawn with this single continuous line. It symbolizes the quiet connection between parent and child, the kind of moment where everything else fades and only closeness remains.

By stripping away unnecessary detail, the art leaves room for emotion. It gives children space to imagine. It gives parents space to breathe. And it reinforces the idea that slowing down, even for a moment, can bring us closer together.
